User guide

Tracker is a real and fully customizable desktop application. With the special skin system it looks and acts exactly like you want, offering you hundreds of unique functions and possibilities transforming your device from a simple organizer to a powerful and great looking handheld computer.

Please note: as Tracker behaviour is highly related to the currently used skin then some points in this user guide could not be valid for some skins. Current user guide is related to the default skin preinstalled with the application, but anyway this guide covers most of the application basics.

Tracker is used as a desktop. You can place any number of sticky notes, shortcuts to applications, documents, speed dials, speed SMS, speed MMS, webpages, contacts, etc on your desktop. You can drag and drop these shortcuts to any other place on the desktop or to the recycle bin. Icons could be native (native application icon, a picture in a contact) and fully customizable (you can select any image in any size to use as a shortcut icon).

With one click on a shortcut it becomes selected, with a second click it starts. If you want to start the shortcut with a single click you can enable "single click style action" options in Tracker settings.

When any shortcut becomes selected then a short description about it is shown on the status label.

Note: some applications only have small icons (native), so if you've selected large application icon and this app doesn't have it, Tracker will ignore this option and will create a small icon instead.

Hint: recycle bin icon appears when you start dragging any icon.

Using keys

You can use jog dial scroll up and down to switch between shortcuts on the desktop. Pressing jog dial button will execute the current shortcut.

Tracker will automatically deselect the current shortcut after 5 seconds of idle time.

If no shortcut is selected then start menu will be shown by pressing jog dial application.

Hint: to clear selection you can click any free desktop place, or just scroll to the beginning or the end of shortcuts. Pressing jog dial scroll down or jog dial scroll up with no shortcuts selected will select the first or the last shortcut on the screen.

Productivity power and customizing system keys

Telephony

  • At the end of each voice call Tracker displays "Call duration" on the screen. The message is displayed in both Flip open and Flip closed modes. [Disabled for Motorola a920/a925]

  • Now you can answer or hang up any voice call immediately (incoming or outgoing) with one key press only (you can define any key you want for it). See "Customize keys" command. Related actions here:
    • End phone call - hangs up a current voice call immediately (if any).
    • Answer phone call - answers current incoming voice call immediately (if any).
    • Answer/End phone call - when you press a pre-defined key while phone is ringing you accept a call, in all other situations (dialing, speaking) when you press this key the call will be ended.
    • New/Answer/End call - Triple action on a key. When you press a pre-defined key while phone is ringing you accept a call, when you are dialing or speaking the call will be ended. If there is no active call then by pressing this key you'll switch to the telephone application to be able to make a call as fast as possible.
  • All these actions work in both Flip open and Flip closed modes.

Complete keys customization

With Tracker 4 you can customize all device keys (if you want to). Tracker automatically determines your device and determines what keys are available. Moreover, with each key you can have multiple actions. One for standard key press, second when the key is held (for 1 sec) and when you are in Flip Closed mode (if your device supports it). With each key you can have the following actions:

  • Don't handle - [default] If selected then Tracker won't intercept this key, and when you press this key a default system action will be performed.
  • Handle but do nothing - Tracker intercepts the key, but no action is performed when you press this key.
  • Reject/End call - see [Telephony].
  • Answer phone call - see [Telephony].
  • Answer/End call - see [Telephony].
  • New/Answer/End call - see [Telephony].
  • Start the application - starts specified application.
  • Show Uni menu - pops up universal menu containing: New, Run, Favourites, Tasks and Connection submenus.
  • Show Close Menu - pops up menu containing: Close current, Close all and compact memory commands.
  • Show Tasks menu - shows task list. Allows you to switch to another active application in the fastest way, to close current task, all tasks, and to compact memory.
  • Show Favourites menu - here you can define and use your favourite items. It can be shortcuts to app, speed dials, etc. This list is skin independent. It's recommended to place here the most used actions you perform with your phone to be able to perform them with one key press.
  • Show Apps menu - displays complete list of all installed applications. Starts anything you want.
  • Back to prev app - switches to the previous application (you worked with).
  • Pop up Tracker - pops up Tracker from the background. When Tracker is active you can switch between skin pages with this key press.
  • Close current app - closes active application without any confirmation.
  • Close all apps - Closes all active applications without any confirmation (excluding system ones).
  • Compact Memory - compacts memory without any confirmation.
  • New call.
  • New SMS.
  • New MMS.
  • New Email.
  • New Voice note.
  • Infrared - opens connection settings.
  • Bluetooth - opens connection settings.
  • Cable - opens connection settings.
  • Emulate Menu key - makes this key act as Menu key.
  • Emulate Esc key - makes this key act as ESC key.
  • Lock/Unlock keys - if you want to use 'Lock screen Tracker feature' you have to define a locking key. When you press this key, all input will be locked till you press the same key twice. Note: it's possible to set up this action on 'Held' press as well, in this case to lock input you need to perform held press on this key, but to unlock it's enough to press this key twice fast (without holding).
  • Show connections menu - shows connections menu. Allows to manage Bluetooth, Infrared and cable connections.
  • Today view/Today - double action on a key. First it pops up Tracker (if needed) and opens the page with today view automatically. If this page is already opened then by pressing this key current date-time will be selected as today (used in summary, day, week and month views).
  • Today view/Cycle view - double action on a key. First it pops up Tracker (if needed) and opens the page with today view automatically. If this page is already opened then by pressing this key today view will be cycled (e.g. from Day view to week view, to month view, to tasks view, etc).

Note1: all productivity operations are optimized for fast one-hand use (without stylus). But of course if you prefer to use a stylus it won't be a problem as well.

Note2: all productivity operations work not only when Tracker is in foreground. E.g. you can pop up task list anytime, when speaking, looking your photos, browsing internet or playing a game, etc.

Warning: Tracker's keys customization is not compatible with other 3rd party key mappers. If some other application will intercept a key after Tracker then Tracker's action assigned to this key won't be performed while the application is running or holding the key. If you want to set up some other application to handle some key all the time then simply set 'Don't handle' for this key in Tracker and Tracker won't touch and intercept this key at all.

Warning: (for SE P900 owners) If you use built-in system lock function then you have to leave one of Jog dial press down or Jog dial press up in Tracker to 'Don't handle'. Otherwise to unlock the phone you'll have to close flip or restart your device.

Screen lock feature

Screen lock feature can be highly used when flip removed (on SE P800 phones). When locked (by specified timeout of inactivity or with defined key press) special icon will be displayed on Tracker's screen. All keys and pointer events are blocked until it's unlocked. You can unlock it by double pressing the defined key. (Press defined key twice faster then 1 sec). When you close the flip it becomes unlocked automatically. Device lock works with PDA part only (flip open or removed state). When flip is closed then the phone part works and it has its own lock and auto lock features.

Warning: Tracker's Screen lock feature is not designed to use with built-in system lock (on P900 phones)! You have to use only one screen lock function at one time.

Warning: For Motorola users: please don't use Screen lock feature on your device. This function is not compatible with Motorola devices!

Tracker global settings

You can customize some Tracker's behaviour selecting 'Settings' command on the Tracker menu.

  • Delete icons without confirmation - If enabled then no confirmation will be asked when you place something to recycle bin.
  • Single click style actions - If enabled then you can start some shortcuts with single click. If not (default value!) then a shortcut is started on second click (with first press you make it highlighted).
  • Auto remove shortcuts for unavailable apps - Enabled on default. If enabled then Tracker automatically removes all shortcuts to already deinstalled applications. If you use several memory sticks you should disable this option.
  • Snap to grid - Here you can set up grid size (or grid absence) that applies when you move your desktop items.
  • Mark speed dial, sms, mms, contact - If enabled then speed dial, sms, mms or contact you create will be marked with small icon.
  • Autostart Tracker - If enabled then Tracker application will be started automatically when system loads (disabled for Motorola a920/a925).
  • Cache Today view - If enabled (on default!) you'll sacrifice some memory in order to open page with today view without ANY delay. Today view resources will be constructed only when opening today view for the first time (next switches to this page will be with no delay!).
  • Auto lock - Specify inactivity timeout for auto Tracker keys lock. See Tracker keys lock feature for more details.
  • Flip open event - Here you can set up whether Tracker should pop up automatically when you open flip or not.
  • Flip open/close sound and volume - Tracker can play sounds when you open and close flip. You can customize sounds here.
  • Close-all exceptions list - Here you can define the list of applications that won't be closed by all 'Close all' commands performed by Tracker.
  • Close all applications on flip close - If enabled then Tracker will close all applications automatically when you close flip (except system applications and applications defined in 'Close-all exceptions list').

Managing skins

Tracker 4 operates with so called skins. In simpler words Tracker can have any kind of appearance and behaviour which is defined by the skin. Skin contains all interface elements, e.g. backgrounds, as many desktop pages as needed, buttons with any look-and-feel and commands, etc.

Please note: Tracker skin is not only a background, colour scheme, etc. It defines not only how your smartphone looks, it also defines how your smartphone acts! Using Tracker skins on your device you can emulate wellknown environments (like Windows XP, Pocket PC, Mac OS, etc) or to create your own unique, great looking and comfortable environment.

Skin basics

I downloaded skin to my PC, how can i import it to Tracker?

  • If you've downloaded skin (file with .ztr extension) to you PC and want to install it to Tracker you should beam this file to your device with Infrared or with Bluetooth or email. When the file is received just press "Done" and it will be saved to Inbox. Then select "Import skin command" in Tracker and you'll see a list of skins found in inbox and select one of them to import. Now you can delete the beamed file from your inbox in order not to waste space on your device (Messaging application, Beamed folder, select needed message and use "Delete message" command in the menu).
  • Or Tracker can import skins from "OTHER" folders accessable from PC Suite, On device they are: c:DocumentsMedia filesother
    d:Media filesother
  • Or, if you're familiar with FileMan you can simply move ztr files to systempps rackerskins folder without any import.
After a skin is imported it will be automatically activated (except manual copying it with FileMan).

Selecting skin:

You can have any number of skins on your device and switch between them easily. For switching between skins you can use "select skin" command. Each skin has its own set of shortcuts and other objects, so switching between skins you switch skins' shortcuts as well. Tracker global settings and favourites are independent from a skin.

Hint: To transfer your shortcuts between skins (if you want) you can use "Import shortcuts..." command

Deleting skin:

It could be very useful to check many skins in order to select the skin that suits you best. To delete an installed skin which is not used you can use "Delete skin" command. You'll see a list of all installed skins so just select a skin you want to delete. Please note: the currently activated skin and the default.ztr could not be deleted.

Where can I get skins?

See "Available skins, skin makers and other resources for Tracker" topic in this guide

I want to make my own skin, how can I make it?

You can dowload default tracker skin sources. It comes with official SkinMaker tool. You use this skin as template and can change it anyhow you want (without any restrictions). The default skin is well commented, so we hope these example could be a sufficient user guide to make new skins. All you need to make a completely unique look and feel for your device is only your imagination (and some skill with graphic editor, e.g. PhotoShop, ImageStyler, etc :) ).

Download default skin sources (template) and SkinMaker.

Please note: official SkinMaker is a command line tool and you have to modify skin in script (text) based form. If you want to find easier way for you to make a skin take a look on "Available skins, skin makers and other resources for Tracker" section. Here you can find some third party visual tools for creating skins for Tracker.

User opinions:

Marcel from Melbourne, Australia: Awesome Desktop for the SE P910i

This is a great piece of software. I have downloaded many UIQ freeware desktops but decided to make the call. I'm glad i did. A friend downloaded another one from this site (competitor) and paid more for it too. His regret is that he did not bother to shop around and see what else was available. I'm glad that I did.......this is very easy to set up and looks awesome. Well worth the spend I reckon...

A reviewer from Cebu City, Philippines: Excellent!

I was Extremelly please with Tracker 3 and I sure am very pleased now with version 4. I especially like the 'close all apps on flip closed' feature. This saves alot of my P800s memory and battery.

A reviewer from Andorra: Very good software and honest company !

The software is excellent, and the company fully support its customers by providing free updates & upgrades. That makes a big difference with other companies making the same kind of software... THE programme to buy for the P900/P800.

WizKeat from Grimsby: THE programme to buy for the P900/P800

I absolutely love Tracker. A must buy! Comes with 2 free softwares - File Manager and Task Manager as well! If you want to customize your P800/P900 this is THE programme to get. Believe me, this programme is unmissable.

John Sims from Staffordshire, UK: Your P800 isn't a P800 without this!

When I first brought my P800 I was sort of happy but a bit disappointed with the lack of control over my device. I then found Tracker. Best of all once you've brought it; upgrades are free!!! It lets you close down processes and apps and is really handy for seeing part of your inbound SMS before opening them. The desktop is fab, as is the screen lock. Nows the time to throw away the phone flip! The best purchase I've made on this site!

Het from London UK: Beautiful

Need I say more? Well yes. It not only looks great but theres really good functionality behind it. Last version of Tracker I used was v1.x so this is a big jump. Customisation options go beyond just changing the look n feel of a few buttons here and there. Make your Symbian OS mobile look like Windows XP? Now I've seen it all... I do like the shortcut to send a contact an SMS/MMS or speed dial them. Only down side is that the file manager app that came with v1.x doesn't seem to be there anymore :o( Other than that I can't fault it!!

Paul Dowling from Bath UK: A Must Have for any P800 owner

This version of Tracker updated from V2.0 is probably the best software i have ever tried on the P800. Paste speed dial shortcuts to your desktop, Application shortcuts even custom files. All accessible via the jog dial. Has a great screen lock too! This is a definite MUST HAVE. I cannot recommend it enough.

Bogdan Savin from Russia, Moscow: It's very good, I hope you'll like it as well.

I do believe that it is the best skin application on our present day. I hope some new function will be included in new releases (such as lock screen will not turn screen then you touch it, as standart screen lock, or will be added new button customization function). In any case - GOOD LUCK SYMBIANWARE!

Riz Mirza from Koszalin, Poland: Best app ever for Symbian OS Phones

First I tried it for free and then bought it. it was the best app. I ever bought for my P910i. and trust me I bought too manny for my phone. it works good & the best thing I like about it is one touch call & text message on desk top. it makes me call people very fast. Thanks people for good work.

Reviewer from UK: This should be the SE P8/9/910i default

I have used this since day one almost, it is the only way to use the SE that is logical and easy, why SE don't give money to these people and make it the default navigation is beyond me :)
